Dalang!
Sunday, May 11, 2008, 19:55
DALANG okayy so went with zhafir to watch RJC's malay drama titled dalang. I must say that i really did enjoy myself. The drama itself was good and the setting and all sort of complemented everything, so good job to RJC for that. Now to the storyline itself, i was slightly disappointed that it was a wee bit shallow - but hey i was a literature student so i expect alot xD. HAHA. Like zhafir said, maybe they should have made the ending slightly mysterious so viewers can actually think. And I guess there was a slight lack of focus on the main characters? cause at the end of the day i'm still trying to figure out who really is suppose to take centre stage. Okay okay im making it sound so bad, but honestly it was good. I like the fact how they tied puppetry into the whole storyline, and sidetracking, how the publicity did well using wayang kulit as the design theme for their booklets and all. Back to the storyline, it makes perfect sense that they potrayed the characters as puppets and the antagonist as the dalang ( puppet master). I mean the character suzanna really did pull the strings and make use of the other characters to get what she wants. Enough said about the storyline, i have to commend the kickass bunch of actors. In my opinion i think each of them did a brilliant job on stage. (looks through programme booklet).. Haslina who played the character suzanna.. i must say both me and zhafir was impressed. I mean she really acted so well that at the end i was kinda suprised she was the bad guy. So great job to her for bringing in the drama and suspense. Dian who played the character Tiara.. i particularly liked the scene that she was "dragged" around by Nazril. She was really convincing with all the emotions and all. And overall she did great too, cause its not easy acting a diva-like character. Nabhan playing the character yazeed a drunk former rockstar. Hmm all i can say is convincing drunkard. HAHA and i mean it in a good way. Fawaz who played the character rashid, a gambling addict and taxi driver. witty one liners made his character memorable. Arif playing the character Nazril who is basically the alpha male bad guy. HAHA he did have that look and aura of the typical bad guy that u see in dramas on suria. HAHA though i really really wanted him to appear more, he seemed more of a side character and not quite memorable sadly (the character i mean). and and my last mention - not that the rest are not worth mentioning.. but im talking too much already- is is Arina who played the office cleaner named pushpawati. What else can i say.. she made the character her own. I might even say she was the livewire, being the comic relief in the show with all the silly lines and action. I really did enjoy every part she had in the play. She was really really convincing in her role as the kpo cleaner. Final words.. I enjoyed Dalang. and if i had the chance to watch it again.. i definitely would i guess. so... well done to RJC malay society for the job well done, the scriptwriter, director, actors, publicist and crew.. a very big round of applaus to you guys.. :):) and i finally figured out dalang means puppetmaster. HAHA. thanks nabilah for inviting me to watch the play :) |
